Jacaranda is a stunningly beautiful old colonial house,  built in 1840, which sits on 1.5 acres of land in the center of downtown Nassau, just above Rawson Square. It is an oasis of calm and tranquility in the middle of a bustling city. The gardens have a timeless quality and the house is enhanced by the beauty of the classical architecture of its time.  It has now been restored to its former glory after being unoccupied for many years .

There is a lot of history attached to Jacaranda. It was built from ballast from a ship from Georgia. This was quite common in the 1800’s. It still has many original features. It quite possible to recognize todays house in old photographs!

In 1949, the house was bought by Eunice, Lady Oakes, widow of Sir Harry Oakes. It has belonged to a member of the Oakes family ever since. regular guests both local and international, who attended dinner and luncheon parties included Lord Beaverbrook, Princess Bismark,  Sir Harold Christie, Sir Stafford Sands, R.T.Symonnete,  Kevin McClory, Sean Connery,  Winston and Gail Saunders, to name a few!
